We are deeply saddened and troubled by the events that occurred at our facility during a private rental event. The safety and well-being of our community, our guests, and law enforcement are of the utmost importance to us, and we want to provide as transparent as possible about what transpired.
The rental agreement in place for this event was contracted for a maximum of 60 attendees. Without our knowledge or consent, more than 300 individuals — the vast majority appearing to be teenagers — arrived at our facility, far exceeding the terms of the contract. The situation escalated rapidly and beyond anything our on-site representative had any ability to control.
We have been notified that gunfire erupted, but we have no confirmed information beyond that fact. Law enforcement is still investigating.
Although we always have a representative of our studio present on-site during rental events, we realize now that security personnel will also need to be present in the future. We have strived to keep our facility rental prices economical throughout the more than 30 years we have had the privilege to serve this community. However, it is clear that additional measures will be required in the future.
Our facility is currently closed until further notice, in full cooperation with law enforcement and their ongoing investigation. We are making ourselves entirely available to investigators and will assist in any way requested.
We want to be clear: what occurred at our facility on this occasion is a profound violation of the trust we place in our rental clients, and of the standards we hold for our space and our community. We do not take this lightly, and we are reviewing all of our rental policies and screening procedures to ensure that something like this can never happen again.
